LUISA TUR ADLIB
Luisa Tur was born on Ibiza on July 9, 1974. She was raised in large part by her maternal grandmother, herself a purveyor of the homespun Ibiza couture, and surrounded by yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks. Having honed both crafts from a tender age, she took to fabricating looks to outfit her dolls, handcrafting the styles that she and her girlfriends would don for school dances.
Those early experiences—plus some months spent studying dressmaking and a stint learning drawing, painting and colour at the Massana school in Barcelona—would define her as an artist.
For more than four decades her family has run two shops in Ibiza specialising in music and tourist trinkets. At fifteen, she used both locations to display her first handcrafted pieces—knitted tops, cotton shirts with lace—that she’d crafted from home in her free time.
In the summer of 2014, another designer (and fellow resident of the Ibiza marina) Luis Ferrer talked Luisa into preparing a series of dresses for the 2015 Adlib runway show. The undertaking helped give form to Luisa’s fledgling workshop, a rooftop space on Avinguda Espanya where Luisa continues to receive visits from clients hunting for exclusive, bespoke dresses and the season’s fashions.
